Project Cost Controls

The principal expertise of Estimations, Inc. is in estimating the cost of project development and construction. We provide conceptual and budget estimates as well as detailed final estimates which may be directly compared to a contractor's bid.

Though the final estimate is usually given the most attention since it is compared to the bid results, it is during the early stages of a project's development where our experience and expertise is most important. Early, accurate cost models of your project lead to the best use of project funds.

Using the latest in estimating software, custom tools and databases, in combination with an extensive knowledge of construction in Alaska, we provide estimates tailored to your specific project. We supplement our experience by tracking trends in the industry, interviewing contractors, and establishing and maintaining vendor contacts in an effort to be well informed about your project.

Condition & Inventory Survey Support

Estimating for inventory and condition surveys requires being able to produce reliable cost models based on limited information, and under tight budget constraints. A familiarity with all aspects of renovation is a must. Having participated in eight surveys, and over 200 renovation projects, we have developed a fast, cost-effective system of providing estimating support for surveys.

Life Cycle Costing/Value Engineering

Life cycle costing/value engineering performed during the early stages of a complex project's development cycle is an essential means of selecting the best alternatives, considering both short term and long term options. Estimations, Inc. provides this service on an informal basis to all clients, if requested, as part of our basic services. When the process requires formal investigation, these comprehensive design alternative and cost studies produce reliable data and fully supported conclusions.

Critical Path Scheduling

Scheduling tracks time, as cost controls track money and the effects of time. While not all projects demand this service, it is important to not overlook the needs of those that do. Scheduling of a remote project may well be the control required to assure completion within the constraints and limits of available funds and time.

Critical Path Schedules are often used as a coordination display, and require professional quality color schedules that present the information in a clear, concise, easy to read form.

Computer Aided Systems

As required by the project's scope, Estimations, Inc. develops a database of pertinent information on each project. This information is then expanded and modified into a comprehensive cost model as the project design develops. We utilize Microsoft Excel for our primary estimating tool. Spreadsheets allow us to taylor estimates to individual project needs in terms of format, work breakdown structure, and separation of multiple funding streams.

We utilize Planswift for digital takeoff of various formats of electronic drawings. We work directly with Revit Models and AutoCAD for expediting quantity takeoffs.
